Eruantale

Site History

Eruantale.net was originally called The Red Book of Westmarch, which was hosted on my old domain. The Red Book opened on February 4th, 2004 and moved to its own domain in June of 2004.

In July 2004 I grew tired of using Blogger and decided to convert to Greymatter. I also wanted to skin my site, so I worked on implementing that. It took a long time and was very confusing, but I managed to pull it off right the first time. Since then I’ve learned a lot about the powers of CSS, PHP, and divs over tables.

Moving towards a half-decent website

In September 2005 I switched to MovableType out of security concerns. I eventually grew tired of MovableType and began converting to WordPress in January 2006.

I decided I would edit my skins so that they were entirely CSS and Divs. Then I decided that I would also strive to make my site as valid and accessible as I could.

This was made very difficult due to WordPress’s little quirks (Or rather, wordpress’s page editor which chewed up my completely valid and functional code and spit it out into an erroneous mess) but I eventually managed to work it out so most of the pages on my website have zero warnings. I did, however, get so frustrated while converting my skins that I decided to start from scratch instead.

After seven months I took a look of my coding and was appalled at how messy it was (still!). I decided it was time for Eruantale.net 3.0. I stuck with WordPress, but I recoded everything. I reorganized the site structure and re-wrote most of my about me section. I got rid of some outdated stuff and finally went live with the new website.

This change was mostly inspired by an awesome review from Umb-Rella Reviews. Sadly, it appears that Umb-Rella is no longer in existence.
