Shawna
Hello, my name is Shawna! I’m a Christian homeschooler, living in Long Beach, Washington, which is in the Good ol’ USA. I’m eighteen and a High School senior this year. That means I’ll be able to vote in the next Presidential election. I think I can safely say I’m far more excited about that than most people my age.
The Basics
My dad is a self-employed programmer/webmaster and my Mom helps with his business. My sister is thirteen and takes a mind-boggling amount of dance classes. (I once attempted to take dance. That’s when I decided to sing instead. It didn’t go well.)
I have two dogs: Rocko, a St. Bernard/Samoyed/Chesapeake Bay Retriever/German Shepherd mix, and Emma, a Sheltie/Border Collie mix. Rocko is an old geezer and Emma is about six years old, though we’ve only had her since April or so. She likes to sleep cuddled up to the toilet (go figure) and Rocko is afraid of bubble wrap. I also have four guinea pigs that seem to think they’re always starving and enjoy spilling water all over their cage.
Long Beach is a small tourist town near the mouth of the Columbia River on a little peninsula in Washington State. It has several claims to fame:
- The beach is long. There is actually a sign that says “World’s Longest Beach” but I think that’s probably not very accurate.
- Lewis and Clark came here once. I know this because we were taught about it every single year when I went to public school, and also because people in this area are obsessed with them. We have statues, signs, tours, busses, murals, museums, and bronze castings of the first tree Lewis and Clark saw when they arrived here dedicated to them, even though Lewis and Clark hated it here! Go figure.
- Long Beach is half an hour from Astoria, Oregon, the place where The Goonies was filmed. Parts of The Ring 2 and The Guardian were shot there as well, I believe.
The locals here also swear that Steven Tyler was in town once a couple of years ago, including some of my best friends. I never saw him though.
