January 3rd: Bible in 90 Days
Today is day one of reading the Bible in 90 days with Mom’s Toolbox. I read from Genesis 1:1 – Genesis 16:16. Not too bad! It took less than an hour.
Like I said in my resolutions post, I attempted this in the summer and only managed to keep at it for a few weeks. But it’s one of my New Year’s Resolutions to see this through, so I am going to do my best.
Today was a weird day, but in the future I plan to get up early and do my reading before the day begins while enjoying a nice cup of Starbucks Christmas Blend with Cinnamon Spice creamer. Mmmm.
The biggest thing that stuck out to me in today’s reading was Genesis 2:3, which explains how on the seventh day, God rested. It just served as another reminder that I need to take having a day of rest once a week seriously, especially when school begins again. Come next week, Saturdays will be my sacred homework day, and Sundays my sacred no homework whatsoever day.
My advice for anyone else attempting this is not to let yourself get bogged down in the genealogies and other lists in the Old Testament. You don’t need to memorize these. It’s okay to skim a little. But be sure to look for my favorite name in the entire Old Testament: Mahalalel. Try saying that three times fast.

You can do it!
I had to laugh that you’ve chosen a favorite OT name, because I’ve done the same thing! Mine are Mushi and Bukki from 1 Chronicles. Keep your eyes out for those two! :)
Those are great names too. I spotted Mahalalel when I actually read through the genealogies in Genesis a few years ago and never miss it now.
